Live, explore and have the adventure of a lifetime

We have all hit our tropical spot, with a towel over one shoulder, a cocktail in hand as we wander around the crowded pool deck seeking a shady spot, only to find that a seat in the hot sun is all that awaits you.

As you melt in the hot sun and begin to feel that tinge of redness that will require some aloe vera later the rowdy crowd begin bombing the pool as you note those sitting on the submerged bar stools seem to never leave for the loo… Eww!

Hazmat suit required before entering

The shopping precincts, tours and local activities are full with people and wherever you head queues and long waiting periods await you.

No wonder when we get home we feel that we need a holiday to recover from our holiday!

Here is the truth, if that is your idea of a dream getaway I would hate to hear your thoughts of a nightmare one as images of Bali and Phuket immediately springing to mind.

One of the great advantages of being over 50 with the kids all grown up and a few dollars in the bank is that such travel destinations do not need to be in your future, and right now is the best time to start to tick off that bucket list of holiday destinations.

Let’s start ticking off that dream holiday list

So, take your mind back to what really excites you on a holiday and remember that as we get older time is not on our side, so think of the adventures you do want to have when you are away from home.

Step out of your comfort zone, get back to what we are meant to do as humans and interact with nature, enjoying life in the great outdoors.

Not only is this fantastic for your physical and mental health, it is also good for your soul to get out in the world, breath the fresh air and drink in the splendour of what mother nature has gifted us.

Truly leave your everyday life behind and amaze yourself by how adventurous you are, as the excitement of expanding your horizons and doing something completely new takes over.

You never know were a taste of adventure can take you

There is so much that you can do, some of it physical, some emotional and there is nothing better for the soul than to learn new skills when away with a trip to a nation less privileged, helping the locals to improve their life.

If a more physical adventure is your thing and you would love to get fit and healthy whilst on holidays, then try a hiking or cycling adventure and experience scenery that will live you forever.

The options are endless and as you trek the Himalayas, cycle the Otago trail, go white water rafting, swim with the whales, snorkel or dive to explore the underwater world.

Explore with a group, as sharing a meal and drinks with your fellow travellers as together you recount the days adventure will create a bond and friendships that will be with you for the rest of your life.

Everything is better with friends

Whatever your dream bucket list holiday is simply do it!

There is no need to not ditch the luxury altogether and spoil yourself as reward with a couple of days of five star accommodation with spa days, massages and a complete relax before you head home.

When you do get home make sure you make your friends and family jealous by creating a coffee table book of your adventures. They will be amazed by the journey you have had, the sights you have seen and will be inspired to do the same.

Whatever you do, make sure you excite yourself by what you can achieve through the experience that you will have on your travels, as that is truly living!

We spend so much of our life working and raising family, we deserve to learn more about our world and make the most of the gift that we have been given a gift to live on this earth.

So travel, explore and live like there is no tomorrow and in the words of Jack Kerouac says “you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. Climb that goddamn mountain.”
